So long and thanks for all of the fish

Today marks the last day of one of the most highly esteemed and recognised people in the WA (and potentially Australian) spatial industry.  Derek Milton – who has been my lecturer, boss, colleague, and mentor over the past 17 years is retiring from Esri Australia – a company that he has worked with for three very long stints over the course of a quarter of a century…

His generosity of time, business acumen and gentle encouragement has seen the successful development of businesses, and more importantly the next generation of thinkers and leaders within the spatial industry in WA.  I won’t list all of his achievements (there may not be enough room!) but Derek – you know wha they are…

Considering the time he has invested in the business community here in WA he deserves the time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labour – including his first grandson.

I believe a spot of fishing will be on the cards for you Derek.  So from myself and everyone else that I know – good luck for the future and hopefully we can drown a worm or two down the track.

Thanks for everything Derek.

Tom
